Privacy

The Singing Orrery is a toy for listening to planets. It's built to know as little about you as it can.

The short version

  • No accounts, no ads, no tracking cookies, and nothing sold or shared.
  • Your games stay on your own device.
  • Your email address, only if you ask for updates, and only to send them.

What stays on your device

Today's Sky saves your game, your streak and whether you've played the practice sky in your browser's own storage (local storage), so a reload doesn't lose your place. It never leaves your device. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes it.

The daily tally

When you finish Today's Sky, your browser sends how the game went: how many tries it took, whether you solved it, and whether you also finished the day before (a yes or no your own browser works out). The site adds that to a few counters for that day's puzzle, to tune how hard the puzzles are and to show everyone's results on the end screen. It keeps only the day's totals: no names, accounts, cookies, IP addresses or device IDs, and no record of any one game.

Shared skies

A share link holds only a sky's numbers: which rings have planets, and where each one starts. Nothing about you is in it, and anyone with the link can open it.

Page-view counts

The site counts page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and doesn't follow you from site to site.

Email updates, only if you sign up

If you enter your email address on the What's new page:

  • Cloudflare Turnstile first checks that the sign-up comes from a person, not a bot. To do that, Cloudflare looks at technical details from your browser, under its Turnstile privacy policy.
  • The site sends one email to that address, with a button to confirm. Nothing joins the list unless that button is pressed within 48 hours. The site itself stores nothing about the sign-up.
  • Once you confirm, your address is kept on a list at Resend, the service that sends the site's email (not in the site's own database). Like any email service, Resend also keeps a short log of the emails it sends.
  • The address is used only to send updates about The Singing Orrery: never shared, never sold, and never used for anything else.
  • Every update has a link to unsubscribe, and one press takes you off the list.
  • Email updates are for people 13 and older.

Children

Anyone can play: playing collects nothing about anyone. The site doesn't knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13, which is why email updates are for people 13 and older. If you think a child under 13 has signed up, write to the address below and the address will be removed.

Keeping the site running

The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and protect the site. To stop floods of requests, the site counts each address's requests for a minute at a time; those counts aren't kept.

What the site doesn't do

No ads, no selling or sharing data, no third-party trackers or social buttons, and no AI looking at anything you do. Its fonts and files come from the site itself.

Changes

If this page changes, it will say what changed and when, and What's new will mention it. This version takes effect on Oct 8, 2026.
